When a pregnancy is conceived, the fertilized ovum becomes a fetus. There are two major factors that help a person decide whether to keep an unborn child or not.
An unplanned pregnancy at any stage of pregnancy can result in many complications, especially when the mother is a teenager or young woman, or the pregnancy is caused by rape or incest.
Pregnancy can cause severe physical and psychological problems, including severe bleeding or infection, severe heartburn, nausea, vomiting, depression, anxiety, irritability, insomnia, abdominal pain, dizziness, or headaches. Women who are older than 35 or have an underlying medical condition can also have a higher risk of complications from a pregnancy.

Abortion Procedures
Abortions are performed in different ways depending on how far a women is in her pregnancy.
If you are in the first trimmister of your pregnancy then, a suction abortion is done.
Suction Abortion
This is a quick and simple abortion procedure. In this method, a very fine tube is inserted into the vagina and used to scrape the lining of the uterus (womb). This scrapings are sucked out through a small tube (suction) connected to the curette. The procedure can be done using local anesthesia or with a sedative. This is a fast procedure and causes only minimal bleeding.
If you are in the second trimester then, a D&E (Dilation and Evacuation) abortion is performed.
D&E (Dilation and Evacuation)
In this method, the woman is given medicine to dilate (open up) her cervix. Once the cervix is open wide enough, a long, thin instrument is used to scrape or cut through the lining of the uterus (called the “endometrium”). Then, a large needle is inserted into the vagina and suction is applied to remove the contents of the uterus. This method is commonly used when the woman has a serious health condition that makes it impossible to carry the fetus to term.
The scraping or cutting of the endometrium causes bleeding which is stopped with clamps or other devices. This method is sometimes also used as an early abortion in the first trimester. The bleeding can be heavy and last for several days.
What are the Post Surgery Instructions?
- Rest for a few days.
- It is normal for women to experience some vaginal bleeding for several weeks after an abortion.
- As the uterus is contracting, some pain is normal after an abortion.
